Beopar Mandal protests after attack on trader

MENDHAR, Feb 3: Beopar Mandal members from Mendhar today held strong protest here today after a trader was beaten up by two local youth.
Reports said that two youth came on a bike and parked it in front of the shop of one Zafar Iqbal in the main market. The trader objected to it and asked the youth to park it ahead of his shop. Over this, they had some heated arguments and then both the youth entered the shop and attacked the trader and severely beaten him up. They dragged him out and again thrashed him even in presence of the cops on patrol in the area. Thereafter, they managed to escape from there.
The victim identified the accused youths as Pikki, son of Mir Mohd and one Zaffar from the same area. One of them is said to be the son of local NC leader from Mankote area. He alleged that youth also took away Rs 50,000 cash and some sale money from the shop. The injured trader was admitted to SDH Mendhar.
After the incident, a large number of traders came out on the road and started protest. They were led by Parveen Kumar Sawhney, Beopar Mandal president, Mendhar. They alleged that lawlessness was on the rise in the town and even despite the presence of police in the market, the youth escaped after beating up trader in full public view. They shouted slogans against the local police. The movement of vehicles was also disrupted.
Then they took out protest march to the office of SDM and then SDPO Mendhar and demanded that action under law be taken against the attackers and they must be arrested. They also demanded action against cops who remained mute spectators in the market during attack on trader. The SDPO assured to take swift action in this regard.
