JAMMU, Jan 31:  A large number of Block Congress Committee members, Congress workers from Bishnah and activists of Youth Dogra Saddar Sabha  held protest demonstration followed by dharna near Press Club here today.
Several Panchs and Sarpanchs besides BCC members from Bishnah under the leadership of  Gambhir Dev Singh Charak assembled at Bikram Chowk and then started protest march towards Exhibition Ground near Press Club Jammu. Then they started protest demonstration in support of the demands of the people of Bishnah block. They were carrying banners and placards depicting demands and shouting slogans against the authorities. Later, senior Congress leader and State president of Dogra Saddar Sabha, Gulchain Singh Charak also joined dharna and also addressed the gathering. He assured the gathering to take up their issues at the highest level.  Mr Charak said some of the issues of border people have already been taken up by him with the Union Home Minister.
While addressing the gathering Gambir Charak  highlighted the problems being confronted by the people of Bishnah constituency particularly the people living on the border. He said that the drive would be intensified by staging such dharnas and protests if the Government failed to take effective steps in this regard. He pointed out that Bishnah tehsil has large area which is much far from tehsil headquarters due to which the people face difficulties for sorting out revenue related issues. It is need of the hour to provide Bishnah, the status of Sub Division, separate tehsil  and CD Block for Arnia, besides creation of five Niabats at Majua, Pindi Charkan Kalla, Kool, Jabowal and Prithipur, eight Patwar Halqas, and re-delimitation of the villages of Bishnah Tehsil wrongly attached with other blocks and tehsils.
Raising the issue of erratic power supply and inflated power tariff charged from the poor people of the area, Mr Charak also emphasized for opening Degree College, ITI for the border people of Arnia, proper infrastructure for Degree College Bishnah, financial assistance to people whose houses were damaged recently crop compensation for the farmers, one time settlement of the refugees of all types and launching of special recruitment driver for the youth of Bishnah R S Pura belt.
Capt Harshvardhan Sharma, Dr Raghubir Singh, Waryam Chand, Master Balwant Saini, Dr O P Saini, Sarpanch Surjit Singh, Dr S K Dingra and K C Dogra also spoke on the occasion.
