BBIA demands extension of Amnesty Scheme

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Nov 23: Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) has demanded extension of Amnesty Scheme for the industrial sector of the State to clear arrears of Commercial Taxes Department.
A meeting of the BBIA was held here today under the leadership of  Lalit Mahajan (president), in  presence of  other members including Varun Singla, Ajay Langer,  Vivek Singhal  and  Viraaj Malhotra in which the members discussed  the recovery notices issued  to the industrial units by the Commercial Tax Department for the recovery of tax along with interest due to non-submission of “C- Forms” for the Interstate Sale under VAT Act and other VAT related arrears.
During the course of discussions, members raised serious concern in respect of harassment being faced by the industrial units due to rigid attitude adopted by the Recovery Wing of the Commercial Tax Department by sealing the Units for the recovery of amount along with interest due to non- submission of “C Forms” for Interstate Sale and VAT arrears under VAT Act.
It is pertinent to mention here that with the implementation of GST with effect from July 8, 2017 the Unit holders are suffering very badly due to cumbersome procedure of GST resulting drastic reduction in the sale and extra burden of amount to be deposited under GST Act every month. This has made  very difficult for the Unit holders to pay the amount of recovery notices due to non submission of “C Forms” and other arrears.
It was further resolved in the meeting that Govt should waive off the recovery from the industrial units due to non submission of `C Forms’ at par with the earlier scheme under which Rs 100 crore was waived off by the Govt.
BBIA appealed to the Chief Minister  Mehbooba Mufti, Finance Minister    Dr Haseeb Drabu  and  Industries Minister Chander Parkash  to intervene into the matter with the extension of Amnesty Scheme 2017 to recover the arrears related to VAT in installments  and  by waiving of interest as  one time measure.
