Batote-Doda-Kishtwar highway remains temporarily closed due to landslide

KISHTWAR, July 30: The 110 kilometers Batote-Doda-Kishtwar highway remained temporarily closed for vehicular movement due to landslide at Kuligarh.
As per police sources, Batote-Doda-Kishtwar highway connecting twin districts of Chenab region–Doda and Kishtwar with rest of the State was closed when a huge landslide hit the road at Kuligarh area, around 22 kilometers from Kishtwar town.
Due to landslide, hundreds of vehicles carrying passengers and essential commodities got stranded on the highway. The pilgrims going to Machail Mata yatra also got stranded.
“The highway got closed at 11 am after huge landslide at Kuligarh area. After reaching the spot, we immediately informed the concerned authorities about the same. The men and machinery reached the spot to clear the highway”, a police official said.
He said that after hectic efforts the highway was opened for light motor vehicle late in the evening at around 7:30 pm and all stranded light motor vehicles including the vehicles carrying pilgrims of Machail Mata yatra were cleared, adding that after clearing the stranded vehicles, the road will be fully restored tomorrow morning.
