Basit welcomes Sushma’s ‘no fullstop in diplomacy’ remark

NEW DELHI, Sept 11:
Welcoming External Affairs Minister  Sushma Swaraj’s statement that there are no full stops in diplomacy, Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit today  called upon both sides to “walk past the narratives of the  past” and build up ties on the basis of mutual respect.    “I can’t agree more with her,” Mr Basit said when asked  to respond to Ms Sawarj’s remarks at her first media briefing  on Monday in which she had said there were only commas and semicolons in diplomacy and no full stops.    Earlier, speaking after inaugurating the second edition of Lifestyle Pakistan Exhibition, Mr Basit described India as an important neighbour and said ‘sky is the limit’ if both the countries chose to work together.
“Unfortunately, we have had a very chequered history, but  now we have to walk past the narratives of the past,” he said.    The two countries have to work together on the basis of  mutual respect, he said.
Mr Basit described trade as a very important facet in inter-state relations, saying it created a win-win situation for both  as it brought people together.    The Lifestyle Pakistan exhibition was a very welcome  initiative of the Trade and Development Authority of Pakistan organised in collaboration with FICCI as it would provide  window to the people of India to know what Pakistan was all  about.
