Hours after Syed Mohammad Baqir Rizvi, an Independent MLA from Zanskar deserted PDP and voted for its Alliance partner BJP with the hope of getting Cabinet berth, the State Government sacked him from the post of Vice Chairman and Member of Jammu and Kashmir Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board.
An official order issued tonight by the General Administration Department (GAD) said the status of Minister of State conferred upon Rizvi in the capacity as Vice Chairman of the Board has also been withdrawn with immediate effect,
Baqir Rizvi had won Zanskar seat as National Conference backed Independent candidate. However, after formation of PDP-BJP Government, he had sided with the PDP and voted for the party in Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections in 2015. Then Chief Minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had made him Vice Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) with Minister of State status.
After formation of Mehbooba Mufti-led Government, he was made Vice Chairman of Construction Workers’ Welfare Board and his MoS status was retained.
