A large number of Bank employees constituting all public and non-public sector banks in Jammu working under the banner of JPBEF assembled at Shalamar Road and raised slogans against the Central Government, protesting its policy decisions which they alleged are aimed at attacking the pro labour provisions of labour laws.
They also criticized the Government’s attempts at introducing certain Banking reforms, which they said, undermine the basic banking operation in the country like outsourcing of jobs.
The protesting employees were demanding removal of ceiling under payment of Gratuity Act and also extension of exemption of Income Tax limit on Gratuity and leave encashment of employees on retirement. The pension scheme which of late has gained prominence and 5 days banking in the industry were also demanded by them.
The demonstration was attended by nearly 300 bank employees of the region. They were addressed by general secretary of Federation, Arun Kumar Gupta, who at length informed the demonstrators about the UFBU positions vis a vis Government policies.
