Bangladesh offers transit facility to Nepal for fuel import

KATHMANDU : Bangladesh today offered transit facility to Nepal through its ports for importing petroleum products to address its fuel crisis triggered due to the blockade of key border trade points with India by Madhesis protesting against the new Constitution.

Underlining that Bangladesh is aware about the existing fuel crisis in Nepal, Ambassador Mashfee Binte Shams said her country is ready to provide Mangla and Chittagong ports as transit to Nepal for fuel and LPG imports.

She said Bangladesh has officially informed Nepal about the availability of the two ports and the latter has shown interest in bringing in aviation turbine fuel from Bangladesh, the Himalayan Times reported.

Nepal is reeling under acute shortage of petroleum products and cooking gas among other daily essentials for over two month due to blockade of key border trade points with India by Indian-origin Madhesis protesting against the new Constitution. (PTI)
