RAJOURI, Feb 17: The entire township of Nowshera observed complete bandh on the second consecutive day today and people held protest against the denial of the post of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) to this Sub-Division.
All the shops and other business establishments in the main bazaar and adjoining markets remained closed in the town while the agitating people including youth and college students also joined the protest march. The Joint Action Committee including members from Beopar Mandal, Bar Association, Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Nowshera besides several local political and social organisations have joined hands to launch united struggle.
They are protesting against the Government decision to sanction ADC’s post to Kotranka (Kandi), ignoring the largest Sub Division – Nowshera. The movement of vehicles was also stalled by the protesting people. The protest dharna in the Tehsil and SDM office complex also affected the functioning in these offices.
A large number of people of the area have raised tents and spread ‘Darris’ / carpets at Tehsil office complex. They are sitting on indefinite dharna at the site. They raised slogans against the Government and also in support of their demand. They were demanding sanctioning of ADC’s post for Nowshera.
The speakers claimed that District Administration had assured that the issue has been taken with the higher authorities and it would be resolved shortly, most likely in next cabinet meeting but it was just attempt to befool the public and suspend their agitation a week ago. He said the Govt was just buying time.
MLA, Nowshera Ravinder Raina also visited dharna site and sat with the people. He also addressed the gathering and claimed that Nowshera was old Tehsil and Sub Division. It should have been upgraded as district. He claimed that before Kotranka, Nowshera deserved to be upgraded for the creation of the post of ADC. He said already R&B and PHE Divisions besides Sub District Hospital exist here. The people there, however, criticised the MLA and alleged that he has failed to provide justice to his area and was now joining him there just for face saving and get public sympathy.
