JAMMU, Jan 11: 1st Additional Sessions Judge Jammu MA Chowdhary today rejected the bail application of alleged heroin smugglers Farooq Ahmed and Mehmood Ahmed.
After hearing APP Ajay Singh Manhas appearing for the State, the court observed, “millions of drug addicts, all over the world, are leading miserable lives, between life and death”, adding “drug abuse is a complex phenomenon, which has various social, cultural, biological, geographical, historical and economic aspects”.
“Drug abuse has led to a detrimental impact on the society. It has led to increase in the crime rate. With most drug users being in the productive age, the loss in terms of human potential is incalculable, causing damage to physical psychological, moral and intellectual growth”, the court said while rejecting the bail applications.
