Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Mar 26: Minister for Social Welfare, Bali Bhagat today announced on the floor of the Legislative Assembly that State Commission for Backward Classes would get its new head very soon.
“I have cleared the file and very shortly the vacant post of Chairman of the Commission would be filled so that cases pending in the Commission are cleared expeditiously”, he said in response to the question of PDP MLA from Baramulla, Javaid Hussain Baig.
He further said that Commission would be asked to ensure timely action on the representations of the people regarding inclusion of their areas in the backward area category strictly as per the laid down provisions.
He said that there are several instances where most deserving areas have not been included in the backward list while as non-deserving areas were given priority for political considerations. “I assure on the floor of the House that there would be no discrimination with any genuine area of the State”, he further said.
The Minister further announced that he would get the names of the villages included in the backward area category during the past six years published in the leading newspapers of the State so that people come forward to raise objections against inclusion of non-deserving areas in the category.
Earlier, it was brought to the notice of the House that inhabitants of several villages of Baramulla had applied before the Commission for Backward Classes in the year 1997-98 for inclusion in the backward area category list but justice has not been done with these villages till date despite fulfilling all the criteria for being included in the list.
