Excelsior Correspondent
Jammu, Sept 1: To seek an early resolution of the various demands of the residents of border areas who are subjected to immense hardships on account of intermittent firing and shelling by Pakistani forces, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad has written to Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister and Chief Minister of J&K.
Azad toured the border villages of R.S.Pura, Abdullian, Chakrohi, Chandu Chack, Joura Farm, Saie, Arnia, Sallehar, Treva and various makeshift camps on August 28, to have a firsthand assessment of the situation and listen to the grievances of the people.
Soon after the conclusion of his tour, Azad, realizing the grave difficulties that the people living along the border face, deemed it necessary to take up the matter with Prime Minister and Chief Minister of J&K for seeking redressal of the demands that fall within the domain of Central & State Government respectively.
Azad has sought the indulgence of Prime Minister, Home Minister and Defence Minister to get the demands like payment of adequate compensation for inability to cultivate land beyond border fencing, special recruitment drive in Army & paramilitary forces, etc addressed by the Central Government at the earliest.
As regards those demands that come within the purview of State Government like allotment of 5 marla plots, granting of RBA status and parity in the ex-gratia relief for those killed in Pakistani firing and terrorist violence, special recruitment in J&K police, etc, Azad has requested immediate intervention of Chief Minister J&K for ensuring early redressal of the demands of the border residents.
Significantly, Azad also spoke to Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of the State, to underline the need of looking into the demands with a sense of earnestness.
