AWWA resents Govt order, to stage protest on Jan 11

JAMMU, Jan 4: Expressing its strong resentment over Government Order No 268 dated August 28, 2017, which deprives the workers of ICDS scheme from retirement benefits with effect from January 2018, Anganwari Workers’ Welfare Association (AWWA) today announced to stage a protest against the order on January 11 near Press Club here.
Addressing a press conference here today, Swarna Choudhary, president of the association said that Government Order No 268 is anti-workers and against principles of natural justice. She said the Government has issued the order without applying proper mind and has thrown the workers of the scheme on the road.
She informed media persons that the association will stage a protest near Press Club, Jammu on January 11 opposing this anti-worker order and pressing for their other demands like hike in salary, extending social security benefits including EPF and ESI, proper and regular supply of nutrition to centres and declaring ICDS workers as Government employees.
General secretary of the association, Neelam Sharma, while speaking on the occasion, urged the Government not to left the workers helpless after their retirement, as without retirement benefits they would face starvation and may die for want of medical treatment. She said that retirement without retirement benefits is meaningless.
“After putting in services of about 35-40 years, retirement without retirement benefits is not acceptable to workers”, she said and urged the Government to kept the Government Order No 268 in abeyance, not to implement it and make a good retirement scheme for the workers after a detail discussion with representatives of the workers.
