AWSC launches website

JAMMU, Feb 28: Association for Welfare of Senior Citizens (AWSC) launched its website www.awscjk.org here today.
The website was launched by Dr (Prof) Nirmal Gupta, Chairperson, J&K State Social Welfare Board, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
Akhlesh Khajooria, who designed the website on behalf of the association, explained the detailed features of the website.
On the occasion, AK Arora, President, AWSC gave a brief account of the efforts made by the association for the welfare of senior citizens and appealed to the J&K Government to legislate an act on the lines of “the maintenance and welfare of senior citizens act 2007” so that elderly parents unable to maintain themselves are not abandoned and neglected.
He further added that health care needs of senior citizens be given top priority and the goal should be to provide affordable health service to them.
Dr (Prof) Nirmal Gupta shared her thoughts with the audience and stressed upon the need to strengthen the family system so that it continues to play the role of primary care giver in old age.
Sunita Santoshi, State Manager of Help Age India also spoke on the occasion and gave an account of the activities undertaken by her organization, such as providing ambulances and conducting   health and eye camps for elderly people  particularly in far-flung areas of the State which lacks basic facilities.
Dr Sahul Gupta, Dental Surgeon, gave a presentation on dental care, particularly implants for the benefit of the elderly people.
In the end, Vikram Gour, Senior Patron AWSC presented the vote of thanks.
