JAMMU, Dec 18: Awaaz Foundation, a public charitable trust, organized a mega health camp at Lachmanpora/Wazira Chak/Sumb/Phlain Mandal area with the idea to provide free medical facilities at the doorstep.
The areas where medical camp was organized falls in a backward and bad pockets areas of tehsil and district Jammu. The team of doctors comprising of surgeon, physician, orthopaedician, eye specialist and trained volunteers provided free consultations to 150 patients which had come from Phlain Mandal area and adjoining villages along Indo-Pak border that are facing health problems due to inaccessibility of health services in remote border belt.
Various diagnostic investigations were conducted during the medical camp. SUN Pharma Company provided Accuchek blood sugar estimation and uric acid estimation machine of latest technology. MICRO Labs provided new generation DEXA Scan machine for bone density estimation on tibia bone. Free PSA estimation coupons were distributed to male patients over age of 60 years. Free medicines were provided to the ailing patients and were given advice to follow up with public health centre and community health centre.
Dr J G Langer (Retd) Professor of surgery, GMC Jammu and Dr Sham Jangral, Orthopedic Surgeon, provided free consultations to the patients while Dr Rushali Gupta, Ophthalmologist, examined eye patients and performed fundoscopy and vision tests. The oldest patient seen in the camp was of 105 years old.
Two patients were selected for cataract surgery and Awaaz Foundation will bear the cost of their surgery. Dr Bhavna Langer, Community Medicine Specialist made patients aware of sanitation issues and Dengue fever and distributed pamphlets depicting Do’s and Dont’s of Dengue.
