Auqaf must focus on infrastructure up-gradation, capacity building: Tak

KISHTWAR, Feb 27: Member Legislative Council and Member Waqf Council, Firdous Tak today said that there was urgent need for Auqaf to focus on institutional, infrastructure and capacity expansion by formulating a comprehensive plan keeping in view the financial resources and available assists.
The legislator was addressing a meeting of prominent citizens and academicians convened by Administrator, Auqaf Kishtwar, Dr Tariq Hussain Dev, to discuss the future plans of the institution. He said that Auqaf is playing a major role in strengthening education, alienation of poverty and creating the community base infrastructure which is directly helping in progress of the State.
Lamenting that such community base institutions have been exploited for political interests by the people who were at the helm of affairs in last more than sixty years. Tak said that Auqaf Department witnessed a complete transformation between 2002 to 2005 under the then Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Syeed.
“The Auqaf Department succeeded in establishing two universities, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri and Islamic University Kashmir, besides nursing colleges in just three years”, he said, adding, this period witnessed Auqaf focusing on the capacity building with accountability and transparency.
Again after taking over as Chief Minister, late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed ordered for establishment of nursing colleges and in just one year six nursing colleges were established in two provinces of Kashmir and Jammu.
Tak said that Government established nursing college in less than a year at Kishtwar and presently around 50 girls were undergoing the course in the institution. “The administration of Auqaf Islamia must now focus on the systematic capacity building of the institution, as Chief Minister has released a financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh for Islamia Faridia Education and Research Institution for infrastructure up-gradation”, he said.
