Attempts of smuggling drugs, liquor to Katra foiled

KATRA, Feb 22:  Police and GRP foiled two separate attempts of smuggling drugs and illicit liquor to the holy town Katra.
According to Police, ASI Krishan Chand, Incharge PCP Moori, alongwith police party intercepted a car I-Con bearing registration No. JK02R/2577, which was on way from Jammu to Katra. During checking, driver of the vehicle, who disclosed his name as Vijay Kumar alias Viju of Thatakote Panchari, initially pretended to cooperate Police but fled away from the spot leaving the car when cops were busy in frisking.
During checking of the vehicle, Police recovered 4.800 Kg Charas, which was kept in a bag. Police seized the recovered Charas as well as the car, which was being used for its transportation.
In this connection, case FIR no.  31/2017 U/S 8/20 NDPS act has been registered at P/S Katra and investigation of the case is in progress.
Meanwhile, GRP Katra also intercepted a person near exit gate of Railway Station Katra, who was found smuggling 50 bottles of liquor (34 Aristocrat, 13 Contessa, 2 Bermuda 8 PM and one Magic Moment).
GRP sleuths seized the liquor and arrested the accused person, who was identified as Sanjeev Singh, resident of Tara, Dansal Jammu. A case FIR under section 188 RPC, 48-A Excise Act has been registered against in this connection at Police Station GRP Katra.
