ASVETS for establishment of Veterinary University in Jammu

JAMMU, Feb 16: Association of Veterinary Teachers and Scientists (ASVETS), SKUAST-J today stressed for establishment of Veterinary University in Jammu, stating that reorientation of research in veterinary and animal sciences for increasing livestock production will go a long way in changing socio-economic conditions of our poor rural masses
“Livestock is an integral part of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy and plays multifaceted role in providing livelihood support to the rural population especially Scheduled Tribes and residents of border areas”, said Dr SA Khandi, president, ASVETS.
He said apart from contributing to States economy in general and agricultural economy to particular, this sector also provides employment generation opportunities, asset creation, coping mechanism against crop failure and social and financial security.
“In view of the importance of livestock sector, establishment of Veterinary University at Jammu will meet the needs of the people of the State”, Dr Khandi asserted.
