Army vehicle crushes man; youth drowns

SRINAGAR, Aug 8: A man was killed after he was hit allegedly by an Army vehicle in Kulgam district of south Kashmir triggering protests.
A man identified as Ghulam Rasool Thokar was hit by the vehicle this morning at Pajlan in the district. He was critically injured and was rushed to nearby hospital. However, due to grave injuries, he was later shifted to SKIMS Soura where he succumbed.
The death of the man triggered protests and people blocked Anantnag-Shopian road at Balsoo. They were demanding arrest of the vehicle’s driver.
Meanwhile, a boy drowned in Jhelum River in Habba Kadal area of downtown this afternoon. The boy identified as Ikhlaq Ahmad Gojri, a class 9 student, drowned at Chinkral Mohalla while he was bathing, police, adding “efforts are on to retrieve his body.
