Army, police top brass reviews security situation ahead of polls

SRINAGAR, Sept 24: Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh and the Valley’s top army official Lieutenant General AK Bhatt reviewed the security situation ahead of local bodies and panchayat elections at a meeting in Handwara area of Kupwara district.
“DGP and GOC 15 Corps Lieutenant General Bhatt held a joint security review with the officers of Army, BSF, CRPF and police in the District Police Lines Handwara”, a police spokesman said.
The meeting was also attended by GOC Kilo Force Major General DP Pandey, IGP (Operations) CRPF Zulfikar Hassan, IGP Kashmir Zone SP Pani, SP Handwara Ashish Mishra and Commandants of Army and CRPF.
Addressing the officers, the DGP emphasized that the existing cooperation and synergy between different forces is to be further strengthened to combat the terrorism and also to ensure smooth conduct of the local governance elections.
Singh expressed happiness that the synergy exhibited by the security forces at the ground level is the best model of success for any force.
“Irrespective of the colour of uniforms, all forces are doing their best in service of the nation”, he said.
DGP said that the improvement in the situation has been made possible by the sacrifices and good work of all the forces.
“The anti-infiltration operations on borders by the Army have proved very successful as a number of terrorists who were infiltrating into the State were killed”, he said hailing the role of the CRPF in assisting the police in maintaining law and order.
During the joint review meeting, the GoC Kilo Force Major General DP Pandey, Commander 7 Sector (RR) Brigadier DR Rai, local Commanding Officers of Army and CRPF also gave their assessment about the situation.
The DGP later addressed a darbar of all police ranks of the district. “Acknowledging the sacrifices made the police in the line of duty, he assured the jawans that Government is taking all possible measures for the welfare of the jawans.
Singh urged jawans to work for the betterment of society by lawfully discharging their duties. He assured that Government is working on providing some more welfare measures for police personnel including SPOs in near future. The welfare schemes pertaining to housing and education are being addressed on priority. He listened to the grievances of the personnel and assured that these will be redressed shortly.
Earlier, in his welcome address, SP Handwara Ashish Mishra briefed the DGP regarding the security scenario and highlighted the functioning of his district.
