Army pays tribute to soldier martyred in Kulgam encounter

SRINAGAR: The Army on Wednesday paid rich tributes to a soldier who was martyred in an encounter with militants in Kulgam district on Tuesday.

Official sources said that Sepoy Manjinder Singh, who attained martyrdom on Tuesday in an encounter at Kund at Qazigund in Kulgam, was on Wednesday paid a befitting tribute by the Army.

A militant was also killed in the encounter.

They said homage was paid to the martyred hero in a solemn wreath laying ceremony at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar.

“General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 15 Corps Lt Gen J S Sandhu, laid wreaths on behalf of the Corps Commander and all ranks of the Corps,” they said, adding that tributes were also paid by officials from civil administration and other security agencies.

They said the mortal remains of the martyr were flown for last rites to his native places, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours. (AGENCIES)
