Army organizes Kashmir Cycling Championship

SRINAGAR, May 29: Army in collaboration with J&K Cycling Association organized Kashmir Cycling Championship along Gulmarg Highway.
A defence spokesman said the race was organized from Kanihama to Kunzer and back.
A total of 85 enthusiastic and energetic professional and amateur cyclists from central and North Kashmir participated in the Cyclathon.
“The 50-km race was flagged off at Kanihama junction by Commanding Officer of HMT Rashtriya Rifles camp. The race was organised under three categories Professional seniors and juniors and Amateurs open category.
On completion of the race, prize distribution ceremony was held where the Commanding Officer of Rashtriya Rifles Unit awarded mementos and cash prizes to the winners from different categories.
“Mohd Adil Taili of ARCO Cements, Kanihama bagged the first prize in senior category, whereas, Amir Assad from Harwan, Srinagar bagged the first prize in junior category of the professional cyclists. Towheed Ahmed Gani from Chak Kawoosa was awarded the prize of best budding cyclist from amateur category,” the spokesman said.
The Army also felicitated Tariq Ahmed Gani, Secretary of Champions Cycling Club and Mushtaq, an ace cyclist and a member of Cycling Federation of India, for their hard work and dedication in promoting sports and organising various events for encouraging the youth.
