JAMMU, July 31: An Army jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Chatha area of city outskirts.
According to a police spokesperson, an Army jawan identified as Gokula Kumar (50) son of Gopal Krishan Pillay, a resident of Kerala, at present posted to 90 Armed Regiment at Chatha, late last evening shot himself with his 5.56 Insas Rifle in his barrack.
He said that the dead body of the jawan was shifted to mortuary room of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where post mortem of the body was conducted today and later it was handed over to Army authorities.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at concerned police station and investigations started to ascertain the reasons which forced the jawan to take such an extreme step.
