Army jawan died in Kashmir cremated in his MP village

DEWAS (MP): The last rites of the Army jawan Surendra Singh Gohil who died in a mishap while on patrolling duty in Tangdhar sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara region were performed at his village Ainabad in the district today.

A large number of people had gathered to pay homage to Gohil (22), who was attached to the Rajputana Rifles.

Gohil slipped and fell into a deep gorge along an icy route while patrolling on November 28. Though he was tethered by a rope to other jawans, he detached himself so as not to endanger them, according to the official statement.

A contingent of about 50 jawans, led by the Commanding Officer Pushpendra Singh, saluted the brave soldier. After ceremonial guard of honour, Gohil’s nephew lit the pyre.

Madhya Pradesh minister for Tourism and Dewas district in-charge Surendra Patwa, minister of State for School and Higher Education Deepak Joshi and Dewas Collector Ashutosh Awasthi were present on the occasion. (AGENCIES)
