POONCH, Mar 15: The police today arrested an Army Jawan of 16 Rashtriya Rifles, at Draba in Surankote for the alleged murder of personal security guard of his Commanding Officer (CO).
Police sources said that Sepoy Balraj Singh of 16 RR was deployed with Commanding Officer of the Unit , located at Draba in Surankote. Since the CO was on leave, the soldier Balraj Singh was sleeping at his guard room. At around 4.55 am on March 9, the soldiers rushed to his room after listening sound of firing. He was found dead in his room with multiple bullet injuries on chest.
The Unit officers earlier projected it as case of suicide. But after postmortem and studying the circumstantial evidence, Surankote Police suspected foul play and sent the body for postmortem and also started investigation under section 174 CrPC. The soldier had received at least five bullet injuries.
On the basis of some clues, the police lifted Lance Naik, Sukhpal Singh, son of Sujan Singh, resident of Punjab (16RR) and placed him under sustained interrogation, two days back. He broke up today and confessed his guilt. The police formally arrested him and registered a case FIR NO. 30/ 2017 under Sections 302 RPC and 4/25 Arms Act at Police Station, Surankote. The weapon of offence was also seized by police.
SHO, Surankote Charanjeet Singh, under the supervision of SSP Poonch, Rajiv Pandey worked out the case. Some old rivalry is said to be the reason behind the murder.
