Srinagar, Jan 1: To mark the end of 2016, the army in Behibagh area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district organized two-day Girls Badminton Championship.
A defence spokesman said to celebrate motherhood, the mothers of participants were invited as the Guests of Honour for the finals and to facilitate and surprise the girls, which was a unique initiative.
“The competition itself was kick-started on December 30, 2016 in two disciplines, i.e. singles and doubles. The singles produced some excellent games with players pilling out a number of crowed pleasing shots, which got the spectators on their feet.
“The doubles similarly saw some excellent rallies and close games. At the culmination of the tournament, the children were felicitated by their own mothers. The participants were pleasantly surprised to receive their prizes and the winners were ecstatic at the same. It was truly an enthralling culmination to an eventful competition which spread a sense of joy to not only the participants but their parents as well,” the defence spokesman added.
