Army flags off trekking expedition

BHADERWAH, Aug 16: In an endeavour to encourage youth to take part in adventure sports, the Indian Army flagged off a high altitude trekking expedition for students of Bhadarwah on Thursday to Bhal-Padri, Amar Singh Pura, Gwari from Bhaderwah in Jammu and Kashmir.
The flagg off ceremony in which beside participating local youth, Army officers, students of the campus and officers from Police and Civil Administration participated was held at Bhaderwah Campus.
Continuing its tradition of pursuing adventure activities, 4 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) based at Bhadarwah, organised four day trekking expedition for the students of Bhaderwah Campus and PG College, which was flagged off by Rector Bhaderwah Campus Prof GM Bhat.
The function was presided over by 2IC 4RR, Prof GM Bhat was the chief guest and ADC Pawan Parihar was the guest of honour, while the proceedings of the ceremony were conducted by educationist, Rana Arif.
“The team will trek for close to 7 hours daily in the high altitude Himalyan ranges of Bhaderwah between August16 and 19, 2018.
After covering the high altitude meadows and ridges including Padri, Satlard, Bhal Padri and Amar Singh Pura, the expedition will culminate at Gwari area of Bhalessa on Aug 19, 2018,” said capt K. D Mahindra, leader of the expedition.
“Adventure, sports activities and studies invariably go hand-in-hand in for the overall character development of every student and should be a way of life for every youth, thus reinvigorating camaraderie and espirt-de-corps amongst, the students,” said Prof Bhat, Rector Bhaderwah Campus.
“The trek will allow the participants to relieve a slice of the history of Nomads especially Gujjar and Bakerwal tribes, who traditionally live in high altitude meadows since centuries, while also offering them a glimpse into the life of villagers of district Doda amidst expansive hilly slopes, cascading waterfalls and running streams,” said Mr Parihar.
“The aim of the expedition is to create awareness about the functioning of Army amongst youth of the region and also motivate them to join the Indian Army,” said 2IC 4RR Maj Ambrish.
Prominent among those, who were present on the occasion include CO 33rd bt CRPF A Padma Kumar, SDPO Touseef Rishu, Rana Arif, Academic Coordinator Dr Kuljit Singh, Prof Jatinder Singh, PRO Bhaderwah Campus Arif Haleem.
