Army conducts inter district Volleyball League

KALAKOTE, Jan 14: In the series of efforts towards promoting regional harmony, foster peace and to provide a sports platform for youth of backward and remote areas of districts under the Headquarters Counter Insurgency Force (Uniform), the Kalakote based Rashtriya Rifles Battalion under Reasi based Headquarters organised a mega event of an Inter District Volleyball Championship from January 10 to 14 here.
The championship witnessed participation of total six teams from Kalakote, Lam, Kalal, Gul, Bagga and Samote.
The final match was played between the teams of Kalal and Kalakote.
Brig M Rajiv Menon, Sena Medal, Commander 14 Sector Rashtriya Rifles was the chief guest on the occasion.
The event was also graced by the presence of ADC, Kalakote, Judge, Munsif Court, Kalakote, Tehsildar, Kalakote, Zonal Physical Education Officer, SHO, Kalakote, Sarpanch from villages and Numberdar Kalakote.
Kalal lifted the trophy by defeating the team Kalakote in a tough fight by 3-2 sets. The aim of conducting the competition was to channelise the energy of the youth in a positive direction, boost competitive skill, prevent them from falling into the traps of anti national & anti social elements and select potential candidates for Pir Panjal Team.
1st prize of Rs 51,000 was presented to winning team, Rs 30,000 to runners-up team and individual prizes of Rs 5,000 each to best Smasher, Lifter and Defender.
Speaking on the occasion, Brig M Rajiv Menon praised the sportsman spirit and high standards demonstrated by all the teams. Commander also added that Indian Army has always encouraged the youth of the area to hone and show their sporting skill with an aim to perform at the state/National level.
