Army chief reviews situation, calls for strengthening Security Grid

JAMMU, Dec 28: Army chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag today called for strengthening Security and Anti-Infiltration Grids in Jammu and Kashmir and maintaining high alert along the Line of Control (LoC) to thwart neighbour’s evil designs as he addressed the Army Commanders and troops at Northern Command Headquarters at Udhampur, 16 Corps Headquarters at Nagrota and visited forward area of Kallal along the LoC in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.
Northern Command chief Lt Gen Devraj Anbu also visited forward areas along the LoC in Akhnoor sector for high-level review of situation with Formation Commanders. This was Anbu’s first visit to Akhnoor sector after taking over as the head of Northern Command on December 1.
Gen Suhag, who will hand over the charge of the Army chief to his successor Lt Gen Bipin Rawat on December 31 afternoon, had on December 26 visited Siachen Glacier and border areas of Leh and Kargil apart from Srinagar.
Sources told the Excelsior that Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag had detailed inter-action with Army Commanders including Northern Commander Lt Gen Devraj Anbu at Northern Command Headquarters in Udhampur this morning in which he reviewed situation prevailing along Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan and operations against militants in the hinterland.
Lt Gen Anbu gave the Army chief a detailed brief on the situation prevailing along the borders and hinterland in Jammu and Kashmir including steps taken by the troops to thwart infiltration attempts and terror strikes in the State in cooperation with other security agencies.
The Army chief had detailed inter-action with the Northern Command officers followed by a similar meeting with Army Commanders at Nagrota Corps Headquarters of the Army including GOC Lt Gen AK Sharma.
Sources said strengthening of Security and Anti-Infiltration Grids in Jammu and Kashmir figured prominently in the meeting.
In his address, the Army chief complimented the soldiers of Northern Command for their professionalism, selfless commitment and dedication to the nation.
He appreciated their role during the recent unrest in the Kashmir valley, ceasefire violations and counter terrorist operations.  He exhorted the troops to continue to work with zeal and dedication to overcome the numerous challenges.
Gen Suhag commended the synergy between all security agencies and civil administration in Jammu and Kashmir.
Later, the Army chief visited forward area of Kallal along the LoC in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district and reviewed situation there.
Kallal was one of the four points in Jammu and Kashmir where the Army troops had carried out surgical strikes inside Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) on September 29 killing 50 militants and Pakistan army personnel.
He inter-acted with Formation Commanders and the jawans at Kallal and lauded the courage and bravery with which they have been manning the LoC ensuring that the militants didn’t manage to infiltrate into the Indian territory.
The Army chief also visited holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi ji and paid obeisance to the Goddess.
Meanwhile, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Devraj Anbu also visited LoC in Akhnoor sector for review of the situation.
This was the Northern Commander’s first visit to Akhnoor sector after taking over the charge of the Command on December 1.
Lt Gen Anbu inter-acted with the Commanders for first-hand report of the situation prevailing along the LoC in Akhnoor, Khour, Pallanwalla and surrounding areas of the LoC, sources said.
