Army celebrates 257th Corps Day

UDHAMPUR, Dec 8:  The  Army Service Corps celebrated its 257th Corps Day at Northern Command headquarters here today.
General Officer Comman-ding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Northern Command, Lt Gen D Anbu complimented all ranks of the ASC for their dedication, high degree of professionalism in performing their duty in difficult and inhospitable terrain in Northern Command.
GOC-in-C called upon all ranks of the ASC to work selflessly and rededicate themselves to uphold the ethos and spirit enshrined in the Corps motto.
The Army Service Corps is responsible for provisioning, procurement and distribution of supplies and petroleum products to the Army, Air Force and Navy and other Central Armed Police Forces. In addition, the ASC is also the single largest custodian of transport fleet and animal of the Indian Army.
The Corps has a record of outstanding contribution to all operations and has proved its mettle both in war and peace for which it has been awarded a Maha Veer Chakra amongst many a gallantry and distinguished awards.  In the field of Sports, ASC has produced outstanding sports personnel of National and International repute. Latest feather in the cap of the Corps is the world record set by the Corps Motor Cycle Display Team (TORNADOES) on Nov 19, 2017 for carrying 58 persons on one motorcycle.
Meanwhile,  Army Service Corps also celebrated its 257th Corps Day at  Western Command headquarters Chandimandir in Chandigarh area today.
In its long cherished history, the Army Service Corps has displayed exceptional versatility, indomitable spirit and commendable ability to keep pace with the changing operational scenarios.
The Corps has strived hard to achieve the highest standards in the field of logistics. It has consistently evolved and emerged as a modern, information-technology savvy and network-centric organisation catering to the ever changing strategic and operational environment.
To commemorate this day, various events were organized at Chandimandir.  “We salute our martyrs on this solemn occasion for their selfless and supreme sacrifices.  The ASC veterans are our pillars of strength, who also whole-heartedly participated in the event, The GOC-in-C, Western Command, Lt Gen Surinder Singh said.
The Western Army Commander extended his greetings to all ranks, civilian employees, their families and veterans  of the Corps on this day and  commended the professionalism displayed  by ASC personnel towards discharge of their duties, both during war and peace.
On this momentous occasion, the ASC fraternity resolved to continue the march towards excellence in all the fields with utmost professionalism, devotion to duty and above all the will to achieve the Corps motto ‘Seva Asmakam Dharma’.
