Armed Forces Flag Day observed

JAMMU, Dec 7: Armed Forces Flag Day was commemorated today to remember the supreme sacrifices made by our valiant soldiers besides collecting funds for the welfare of the Indian Armed Forces personnel.
NCC cadets of 2 J&K Boys Battalion, Govt  MAM College, Jammu observed rated Armed Force Flag Day.
Principal of the college,  Dr  Anita Sudan spoke on the occasion and said that it is  our responsibility to support the donation generously on the Flag Day by purchasing flags sold by the volunteers. She stood herself as first person who donates for the said cause.  Capt  Dr  Karan Singh, Associate NCC Officer of the college also briefed the cadets and divided them in different groups to collect the contributions for the nobel cause. One group of students,  led by Capt  Dr  Karan Singh also visited Civil Secretariat Jammu for selling the flags on the occasion.
In the secretariat the cadets were called by the  Minister for Higher Education  Syed Mohammad Bukhari, who  appreciated the cadets for their efforts to collect funds by selling flags on the occasion which will be used for the welfare of the families of the war heroes of our Armed Forces.
The amount collected on the occasion will be sent to Zila Sanik Board, Jammu for further proper utilization.
The Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu commemorated the day by organizing a talk by Col  (Retd) Virender Singh for the University students to generate awareness about the sacrifices made by Armed Forces and also about the significance of the day.
Prof  Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs was the chief guest on  the occasion.
He recalled his fond childhood memories of association with Armed Forces which have shaped his personality with discipline and nationalism.
The resource person Col (Retd) Virinder Singh Dogra,  who is presently serving as Zila Sainik Welfare Officer Udhampur, explained the relevance and importance of the day in the life of Army personnel and that of civilians too who cherish freedom as there are soldiers protecting the borders for them.
Prof  Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare,  presented welcome address while Dr  Anupama Vohra, Associate Dean Students Welfare presented the formal vote of thanks. The event was conducted by Ramneet Kour and Namrta Chib.
Happy Model Hr Sec School Udhampur in collaboration with Purv Sainik Sewa Parishad Udhampur observed the day by organizing a function  in which 12 Veer Naris along with 17 Ex Soldiers and Officers participated.
On the occasion,  the school collected and donated Rs 10,000 towards Flag Day collection and handed over the cheque to Lt Col Juneja and  Maj Uma Kant Sharma and Hon Capt Bana Singh.
The event started with screening of  two movies on  Indo-Pak War  of 1965 and  on Kargil war of 1999.
Thereafter colourful cultural items were presented.  On the occasion Medals were also presented by Happy Model Foundation to all the Veer Naris.
NCP State president Thakur Randhir Singh paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Indian Armed Forces  and said that the occasion reminds people not only to recall the supreme sacrifices of the soldiers but also to contribute for welfare of  the next of the kin of the martyrs.
