Srinagar, Nov 15: In the outskirts of Srinagar, the residents of Arifeen Colony in Ihali Bagh area are facing extreme hardships due to the worst water logging in their area.
Lack of drainage, according to locals, led to water logging in their locality. Shopkeepers said water logging severely affected their daily business while some complained that the water entered their shops and houses.
The locals said that incessant rains for the last one week have caused heavy water logging of the approach road, causing inconvenience to the residents. “Lack of proper drainage has led to inundation of our roads. It affects the education of our children as they are unable to attend schools during the rainy season. Visitors have to return midway,” Jeelani, a local from Lane No. 4 of the Colony said.
The residents said back in 2012, the Government assured construction of drainage in the area but nothing has happened so far. “We were promised that in order to tackle the issue of water logging Government has prepared Rs 20 crore drainage project for the entire area. However, the project is nearing its completion and our area has not received the benefits,” Ali Mohammad, a local said. He added: “During rains, we get trapped in our homes and are unable to venture out. People have come and surveyed the area but to no avail. Authorities are turning a blind eye.”
Meanwhile, inhabitants resented the “inaction” of the authorities to dewater the submerged road in their locality and demanded immediate dewatering of their area.
