It was heartening to see the photographs of the meritorious candidates of Hr.Sec.Part 2, of Govt Hr Sec Schools of Jammu Division, who brought laurels to their respective schools in the recently declared result of HSP-1, Annual, Summer Zone, 2018, in the newspaper (DE, May 3, 2018).These photographs, alongwith the names of their parents and schools were published on behalf of the Directorate of School Education, Jammu to appreciate them, the Principals and teachers of their respective schools for their brilliant achievement. While it was nice to find the students being appreciated, it was sad that no candidate from the Commerce Stream could get any merit position in the said exam.The matter of the fact is that the students studying in Govt schools are, in no way, less efficient than their counterparts studying in Private institutions provided these schools have adequate staff and infrastructural facilities.What they need is their appreciation and encouragement by the society and the Department. While the students studying in private institutions are appreciated by the School Management through Print/Electronic media, the students of Govt Schools are hardly appreciated.
The teachers in Govt schools are, on the whole, more experienced and qualified than those teaching in Private institutions.They spare no pains to teach their students to the best of their ability. But they need to be morally boosted so that they can work harder for achieving new results. It is a fact that appreciation of good work motivates a person to work more for achieving better results.Therefore, the principals/teachers of the schools whose students score merit positions or subject positions or show 100 percent result of the school/subjects should be awarded Appreciation/Commendation Certificates to boost their morale and to motivate others to emulate them.Similarly, the Chief Education Officer of the District which excels the other Districts in Board results should also be honoured.The DSEJ deserves to be appreciated for taking this noble initiative.It is hoped that such initiatives will be taken by the School Education Department in future too.
