AOC-in-C Western Command visits Udhampur

Udhampur, Jan 27: Air Marshal SS Soman, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command, visited Udhampur Air Force station today.
The Air Marshal was accompanied by his wife Mrs Rashmi Soman, who is the president of the Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Regional) Western Air Command.
He was received by Group Captain Devendra P Hirani, Station Commander, and his wife Madhu Hirani, president Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Local).
Air Marshal SS Soman is a graduate of the National Defence Academy, Pune.  He was commissioned in the flying branch in December 1976 and has more than 3,400 hours of flying on fighter aircraft.
He visited HQ AOC J&K as part of his familiarization tour of the units under Western Air Command.  He reviewed the peace time operations being conducted in Jammu and Kashmir and was also briefed on various operational aspects.
HQ AOC J&K was formed on 12 Jun 62 at Srinagar and later, on 13 Jan 64 it moved to its present location at Udhampur.  The HQ has been closely involved in planning and executing all Joint Army/ Air operations and above all ensuring that the Air Logistics channel to the remotest posts in the hostile terrain remains functional. In addition, HQ AOC J&K has been ensuring relief and casualty evacuation to the Army, Para Military Forces and the State Govt.  In assisting the people of J&K, this HQ has been at the forefront in providing succour to the populace in the times of natural calamities. HQ AOC J&K is presently commanded by Air Vice Marshal Anil Khosla VM.
