Ansari flags off Vansh, Tariq for Jr World Fencing C’ship

JAMMU, Mar 29: Minister for Information  Technology, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Imran Raza Ansari flagged off ace fencers Vansh Mahajan and Tariq Hussain for Junior World Fencing Championship to be held from April 1 to April 9, 2018 at Verona in Italy.
The Minster was accompanied by Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Ranjit Kalra, Advisor (Sports) Govt of Lakshadweep/ Vice-ChairmanJ&K State Sports Council Jammu and Vijay Sharma, Patron J&K Amateur Fencing Association.
Earlier, the Fencing Association of India conducted open selection trials for all Indian Fencers on March 8, 2018 at Divisional Sports Complex, Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Vansh ranked 1st in Sabre event and Tariq Hussain ranked 2nd in Foil Event.
Vansh in Sabre Event has recently clinched silver medal in team event in 28th Senior National Fencing Championship held at Solapur, Maharashtra.
He also represented country in Junior World Cup 2017 at Russia, Navy open Fencing Championship 2017 at Bangkok, Singapore Junior Fencing Championship 2017 at Singapore, Thailand Open Fencing Championship 2016 at Thailand and Cadet Junior Common Wealth Fencing Championship 2015 at Capetown, South Africa and won many more medals in School National and National Championships.
The State Govt. has announced Sher-e-Kashmir Sports Award for Vansh, who has also got S. Rangil Singh Sports Excellency Award from J&K State Olympic Association recently.
Tariq Hussain in foil event has also won many medals in National School Games and other National Championships.
Both the fencers are following the footsteps of their mentors, Rashid Ahmed Choudhary and Ujjwal Gupta.
