JAMMU, Feb 22: Kashmir Sikh Sangat (Regd), an organization of Sikh community from Kashmir has resolved to felicitate community members / children for their outstanding performance in various fields during 17th Annual Convention being held at Jammu Club here on February 24.
Talking to media persons here today chairman of the organization Dhanwant Singh and president, Sewa Singh said that 17th Annual Convention of the Kashmir Sikh Sangat, is aimed at discussing the problems being faced by the Sikh community in Kashmir and to honour the members from the community who have excelled in various fields like education/ academics, social service, sports, art and other fields.
They said the event being held from 2 pm to 5 pm on Friday, shall also deliberate upon the functioning of the organization during last one year and the future course of action for the coming year. Awards will be given to the deserving members of the community for their distinguished services, they added.
The president said that the event would also provide opportunity to the participants to highlight the genuine demands and problems being faced by the Sikh community and project the issue of setting up of Minority Commission in the State.
Singh said the Sikh community which is micro minority living in the turmoil plagued Valley is being ignored by the Govt for their rightful and legitimate issues. He said the community also deserve the benefits being provided to the migrants from Kashmir. Many Sikh families did not leave the Valley but stayed there despite all odds and challenges. These families also deserve jobs and other benefits being provided to the Valley migrants.
He further disclosed that Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta has given the consent to be the chief guest on the occasion while MLC, Charanjit Singh Khalsa will be the guest of honour at the function. Several executive members of the organization were also present on the occasion.
