Anil Sharma passes away

JAMMU, Jan 8: Anil Sharma, Special Correspondent, Daily Excelsior, passed away today after a brief illness.
He was 65 and is survived by his wife and two sons.
Well qualified and master in his profession, Anil Sharma was associated with Daily Excelsior right from the beginning of his career i.e. early eighties and had several significant stories, news analysis and articles to his credit.
Well respected not only in the Excelsior but entire journalist fraternity for his simplicity and gentleness, Sharma was cremated at Shastri Nagar cremation ground at 5 pm today with people from all walks of life attending his last rites to pay respects to the noble soul.
Excelsior management and staff condoled the demise of Anil Sharma in a meeting held in the office. They recalled contributions of Anil Sharma to the Excelsior spanning over three and half decades.
Meanwhile, keeping in lines with the tradition set by late SD Rohmetra, founder of the Daily Excelsior, the newspaper management including Kamal Rohmetra, Editor-in-Chief and Neeraj Rohmetra, Executive Editor have announced that Anil Sharma’s widow, Veena Sharma will be given Rs 10,000 monthly pension.
Late SD Rohmetra had set the trend in 2008 when he had announced Rs 10,000 pension for the widow of Ashok Sodhi, Chief Photographer, Daily Excelsior, who was killed in an encounter between security forces and militants. The pension of Sodhi’s wife has subsequently been enhanced to Rs 12,000.
Press Club of Jammu, in a meeting, expressed shock and grief over the sad and untimely demise of Anil Sharma. The Press Club recalled services of Sharma towards journalism as well as the Club as he was the Club’s first Secretary General.
The Press Club meeting was attended by Ashwani Kumar, Manu Shrivatas, Abhimanyu Sharma, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Dinesh Manhotra and executive members.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, while condoling the demise of Anil Sharma, expressed sympathies with the family and prayed for peace to the departed soil.
Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Shesh Pal Vaid has also condoled the death of Anil Sharma and expressed condolences to the bereaved family. He has prayed for peace to the departed soul.
PCCI chief G A Mir offered his deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Sharma, Mir said Sharma always used his pen in right direction.
Former Minister and MLA Khansahib, Hakeem Yasin and PDP MLA from Rafiabad Yawar Dillawar Mir have condoled the death of Anil Sharma and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family.
Media XI Cricket Club, Jammu  has condoled the death of Sharma and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
Various journalist bodies across the State including region, district and tehsil levels have also sent-in their condolence messages on the death of Sharma.
