Anganwari workers stage protests across State, project demands

JAMMU, Feb 20: Low paid employees including Anganwari workers, helpers, NHM workers and PHE daily wagers today staged demonstrations across the State to protest against Central and State Government’s budget proposals for the year 2018-19 and to press for their demands.
A large number of Anganwari workers and helpers under the banner of Anganwari Workers’ and Helpers’ Union assembled today in front of MA Stadium in Jammu and held demonstration/dharna. They observed black day against the anti-employees budget proposals 2018-19 of State as well as Central Government. They alleged that both the Governments have ignored the scheme workers in the budget proposals.
The workers appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of J&K, Mehbooba Mufti to consider the genuine demands of low paid workers including Anganwari workers and helpers who are demanding enhancement of their salaries, social security benefits and pending wages. In protest, the workers were wearing black badges and raising anti-Government slogans.
In Samba district, hundreds of Anganwari workers and helpers under the banner of Anganwari Workers’ Welfare Association staged anti-Government protest. They were demanding wages equivalent to their counterparts in neighbouring States of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi and condemned the Government for ignoring their demands continuously. They threatened of intensifying the agitation in the coming days if their demands were not fulfilled.
The protests were also held at various places in Reasi district. Scores of Anganwari workers as well workers of NHM and daily wagers of PHE led by their leader Om Prakash held demonstration at Reasi and observed black day by wearing badges and shouting slogans against the Government. Also, some Anganwari workers and helpers under the banner of J&K National Trade Union Front, held a protest in front of District Development Commissioner, Reasi to press the State Government and higher authorities of ICDS Department for immediate solution of their long pending demands.
