JAMMU, Mar 9: Hundreds of Anganwari workers and helpers from Jammu division under the banner of Anganwari Workers and Helpers Union (AWHU) held a protest demonstration here at Dogra Chowk in connection with their long pending demands.
The protesters while raising slogans in support of their demands warned to intensify the agitation in case the demands were not conceded immediately by the Government. They also burnt the effigy of the State Government for continuously ignoring their demands.
The protesters demanded enhancement of honorarium of Anganwari workers and helpers at par with the States of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi where the per month honorarium given to a worker is Rs 10,000.
They said that the State Government is utilizing the services of Anganwari workers and helpers in over a dozen departments and for various schemes and projects but it is unfortunate that the Government never bothered to improve their economic condition.
They said that the honorarium of Anganwari workers and helpers has not been enhanced for last 10 years where as the prices have touched the sky. The protesting workers condemned the anti workers policies of the State Government and higher authorities of ICDS who are only making a lip sympathy with the Anganwari workers and doing nothing on the ground.
The other demands highlighted by them included regularization of Anganwari workers and helpers, release of honorarium of workers and helpers pending for last eight months, issuance of final seniority list, implementation of new pension scheme and freed group insurance scheme for workers and helpers, etc.
