Srinagar, Sept 19: Scores of Anganwari workers continued their protest amid hunger strike on second consecutive day today over their series of demands.
The protesting Anganwari workers are camping at press enclave here and are demanding their regularization and hike in salary. During the protest, one worker attempted to set herself ablaze. However, she was later rescued by the fellow protesters.
Around two dozen Anganwari workers are on a protest at Press Enclave. They are demanding increase in their wages at par with the other states like Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan. On Monday, police foiled their protest after they tried to block the busy Maulana Azad road and also march towards Clock Tower. Several workers were detained during the protest.
The protesters vowed to continue the strike until their demands are met. ”We demand enhancement of salary to Rs 10,000 per month for Anganwari workers and Rs 8000 to helpers and regularization of our services,” they reiterated.
