JAMMU, May 21: The Anganwadi workers and helpers of ICDS Projects of the Social Welfare Department will hold massive protest demonstration and rally at the Press Club here on May 30.
Addressing press conference here today Mohd Gafoor Dar, state president of J&K National Trade Union Front said that ousted Anganwadi Workers and Helpers are protesting for the last about one month. They were thrown out by the Mission Director ICDS on the directions of the Minister for Social Welfare. Over 5000 such workers have been thrown out without any justified reason.
He said that all the Anganwadi workers and Helpers would observe mass casual leave on May 30 and hold massive protest rally against Mufti Government’s decision. He demanded that decision of the ouster of Anganwadi workers and Helpers be reviewed without any more delay.
Mr Dar, Mahajaveen, Sunita Devi, Suman Kumari and others appealed all the Anganwadi workers and helpers to support them and join protest rally by observing mass casual leave on May 30.
They said that ousted workers are already protesting at all the district headquarters but the Government has turned deaf and dumb. It is proving anti-worker and anti-poor.
They also alleged that Anganwadi staff has not been paid their salaries for the months together. They are made to work on very low rates and no hike in the wages has been given since long. The workers are always harassed for termination of their services. The Anganwadi workers are facing stagnation. There is no promotion since long as no DPC was conducted for the last several years.
They demanded 100 percent promotion avenues to supervisors, Anganwadi workers and helpers and enhancement in their honorarium to double. They also alleged that staff under ICDS projects was not being paid their wages regularly. It was demanded that their promotion be enhanced from 50 % to 100 % or 80 %, pay anomalies be removed, good quality nutrition items be purchased; supply of furniture, stationery including MPR performa sheets to ICDS centers for smooth functioning be provided, training allowance to supervisors and Anganwadi workers and helpers be paid as per the Central Govt guidelines and termination orders of workers and helpers be withdrawn.
