Anganwadi workers, helpers hold conference, warn agitation

JAMMU, Feb 28: Expressing grave concern over non payment of salary to the Anganwadi workers and helpers for a long time, the Anganwadi Workers Association today demanded that the salaries be paid month wise.
A resolution to this effect was passed in a one day conference of the Association here at Geeta Bhawan. It said the workers were facing problems due to non payment of salaries and it was difficult for them to make their both ends meet due to the sky rocketing prices.
The conference also demanded that good nutritious, and qualitative items be given in time and there should be no shortage of any item at any time.
It alleged that no proper procedure for supply of nutrition has been adopted and the procedure differs from district to district.
The conference also demanded issuance of promotion orders of supervisors from Anganwadi workers on the basis of seniority and there should be no direct appointment for the same.
The promotions be given on the basis of qualification matric and graduation. Besides, the handicapped workers be also given three percent quota.
The Association also demanded declaration of all Anganwadi workers and helpers as Government employees, to set up grievance committees, at district and State level to solve the problems, payment of fuel charges to Rs 300 per month with one cylinder to prepare nutrition for two times, Allowance TA, DA for attending meetings, carrier charges, teaching allowance,  supply of stationary and uniforms, benefits of pension, gratuity, insurance, rent charges  and benefits of other social welfare schemes be given to both workers and helpers.
It demanded at block level CDPO should take monthly workers meeting to discuss workers problems.
The Association also decided to hold protest demonstrations in the month of March in support of their demands.
Addressing the demonstration senior BMS leader Lakshman Ravinder Singh, Ashok Choudhary, Swarana Choudhary, president and Neelam Sharma general secretary of the Association demanded acceptance of demands at an earliest failing which they will hold protest demonstration at different places during the month of March.
