JAMMU, Jan 4: Anganwadi workers, helpers of ICDS projects under Social Welfare Department, casual labourers and other contractual workers held strong protest demonstration and also took out a large rally here today.
A large number of Anganwadi workers and helpers besides others under the banner of  J&K Govt Employees, Casual Labourers, Workers and Pensioners United Platform assembled at MAM Stadium near Dogra Chowk here in the morning and held strong protest demonstration in support of their demands. They were shouting slogans against Social Welfare Department, State Government and also in support of their long pending demands.
They were demanding  enhancement of their wages/ honorarium, payment on regular bases every month, amendment in SRO 520 dated 21-12-2017,  their regularisation, finalization of seniority list of Anganwadi workers and helpers  and according  promotions and implementation of 7th Pay Commission  report in the State.
Under the leadership of veteran trade unionist, Mohd Gafoor Dar and State convenor of the United Front, these workers from various district and ICDS projects started protest rally towards Indira Chowk and Civil Secretariat. They were carrying banners and placards in hands depicting their demands. They shouted loud slogans projecting their issues.
As they reached near Bus Stand, just ahead of Gumat Chowk, a strong contingent of Police stopped their movement ahead. After showing some resistance, then they moved towards Vivekanand Chowk  and then returned to Press Club where they held strong rally. Several Union leaders addressed the gathering and criticized the Government for ignoring demands of the Anganwadi workers, helpers and other workers. They demanded that a definite policy be framed for the regularization of temporary workers. Prominent among those who spoke and participated in protest program included  Gafoor Dar, Rajinder Kumar, Nazir Ahmed Moulvi, Tanveer Hussain, Akhil Sharma, MA Lone, Rajan Sharma, Deepak Gupta and Subhash Chander.
