LUCKNOW, Aug 19: Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh today met Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav thus sending a clear cut indications about the former’s joining the party very soon. Though Mr Singh, after meeting Mr Yadav in the presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, at the residence of the SP president, told reporters that he has no intention in joining the party.
“It was an informal, cordial meet. I am not joining Samajwadi Party”, he stressed.
But there is a strong speculation that Mr Singh, who lost from Fatehpur Sikri seat on RLD ticket in the Lok Sabha elections, could join the party from backdoor by getting the Rajya Sabha ticket from SP.
According to sources, the meeting between Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav continued for about 45 minutes. Amar Singh, who has floated a political outfit Rashtriya Lokmanch after expelled from SP in February 2010, dashed to Lucknow on being summoned by Mulayam Singh Yadav.
“ Several important issues were discussed between the two leaders along with the strategy for the coming by-elections in the state,” sources disclosed.
Earlier,the SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav,a strong critic of Mr Singh, had said in Mainpuri that the reports of Amark Singh joining the party was just a rumour. On August 5 last on the occasion of the birth anniversary function of Janeshwar Mishra here, Amar Singh shared dais with Mulayam Singh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav after a gap of four years when he was expelled from the Samajwadi Party.
Surprisingly, Amar Singh’s bete noire and state Urban Development Minister Mohammad Azam Khan chose to stay away from the Janeshwar Mishra function.
Meanwhile, ruling Samajwadi Party today held a meeting of the ministers and other senior leaders to discuss the crucial by-elections in the state.
The meeting was addressed by Mr Yadav and Mr Akhilesh Yadav at the state party headquarters directing the ministers and other senior leaders to make their all out efforts for winning all the 11 assembly and one Lok Sabha seats. “Our only target should be to win all the seats going to polls in the by-elections and we should be united to achieve our goal,” the CM, who is also the state president of the SP, directed the ministers and the leaders.
By-elections to 11 assembly and one Lok Sabha seats in UP is slated on September 13. SP is the only political party in UP who have announced all the candidates except for one in this by-elections.(UNI)
