JAMMU, Feb 10: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri today informed the Legislative Assembly that the Department of Health and Medical Education is identifying an alternative suitable land for the establishment of Trauma Hospital at Sunderbani.
While replying to a Calling Attention Notice of legislator Ravinder Raina, the Minister said that as soon as the process of identification of land is completed the Union Government will be approached for the release of funds for the purpose.
Giving reasons for the delay in the land acquisition, the Minister said that initially a piece of land measuring 34 kanal and one marla situated at Sunderbani, which was in the position of J&K Police was proposed for establishment of Trauma Hospital. “But the Police authorities expressed inability to transfer the land”, he added.
“The Police Department has stated that the land was purchased by it at a cost of Rs.2.73 crore from the J&K Industries Limited in 2009 and since then it is in their possession, besides, a PIL titled “Bhagwati Prasad and others Vs State and others” was also filed in the High Court for earmarking the land for setting up of Trauma Hospital”, he said.
The PIL stands dismissed by the High Court in February 2017.
