Altaf reviews progress on developmental projects, functioning of various departments

JAMMU, May 9: Minister for Forests & Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmed, who is here to attend the summer secretariat this week, today reviewed the functioning of various departments and pace of progress on developmental works going on in various parts of the region, while chairing a high level meeting.
Directing the service providing departments to ensure better delivery, the Minister asked the PDD authorities to strictly adhere to the scheduled power curtailment.
He asked PDD to inform the public about schedule of power cuts in advance and take all measures to avoid unscheduled curtailment. He underlined the need to devise an effective mechanism to repair the damaged transformers and time line restoration of power due to breakdowns to avoid inconvenience to the public.
The Minster also directed the PHE Department to maintain daily water supply and press tankers into services to the water stressed areas, including the rural areas. He asked the department functionaries to pay special attention to the rural pockets with regard to regular water supply.
While reviewing the functioning of the Agriculture Department, the Minister was informed that the department has adequate stock of seeds and fertilizers and the procurement process is being closely monitored to ensure that farmers are facilitated in all possible ways. The Minister was also informed that adequate stocks of essential commodities were available in all the areas
Reviewing the pace of progress on various projects, he stressed upon all heads of the department to ensure close monitoring at various levels of implementation of welfare and developmental activities. He also laid stress upon completion of all ongoing projects in time bound manner, adding that coordination among the line departments during the implementation of the works was imperative for timely completion and to avoid inconvenience to the general public.
While reviewing functioning of Forest Department, the Minister asked the concerned officers to raise massive awareness among the people about the importance of protecting forests for posterity. He also asked them to educate the people about the department schemes meant for maintaining and promoting green wealth of the state and encourage them to plant trees in their areas.
The Minister asked the officers to ensure that strategic plans are chalked out on time to check forest fire incidents during summer season and minimize losses during any such incident. He also stressed on improving synergy among various wings of the departments to minimize the man animal conflicts and check loss of human life and livestock.
