Almost every country will be participating in World Yoga Day this year: Shripad Naik

PANAJI, June 5:
Union Minister for State for AYUSH Shripad Naik today said almost every country in the world will participate in the International Yoga Day event scheduled to be held on June 21.
Speaking to reporters here, he said, “The situation is that 100 per cent countries in the world will do yoga this year. The programme was held in 199 countries last year, this year, more countries will be added to the list and big programmes will be held through our embassies and missions.”
Mr Naik, Member of Parliament from North Goa, said the main event would be held in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) which was expected to be attended by more than 50,000 enthusiasts besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
“At least 51,000 and more people will be participating. Because there is paucity of space, screens will be put up in eight to nine parks nearby and simultaneous yoga activity will be conducted. In the whole country, we have requested state governments to organise a big programme and so also to NGOs, schools, colleges to hold their own events,” he said.
He said there was no compulsion on schools or educational institutions to organise Yoga events but the ministry was encouraging Yoga because it was good for all. (UNI)
