JAMMU, Dec 13: In an apparent reference to Dr Farooq Abdullah announcement that National Conference would go alone in the elections,  Pradesh Congress  Committee spokesperson Ravinder Sharma today said that  it was the right and choice of every political party to enter into pre-poll or post-poll alliances, unless it goes totally against the fundamental ideology and principles of any party, as is the case with the present coalition of two ideologically opposite PDP and BJP, which is product of sheer opportunism, driven by lust of power.
In a statement, Sharma said that Congress did enter into electoral alliances and tactical understandings with like minded secular forces  without compromises on its basic ideology, agenda and issues of people, keeping in view larger goal of strengthening the democratic mainstream space to defeat the communal, divisive and  separatist forces in the State.
He said that utter failure of the present opportunist coalition and the total exposure of the two coalition partners before their respective electorate have offered fresh opportunity to the Congress party and people now pin hopes in all three regions towards Congress party to emerge as an alternative to the forces of exploitation and opportunism. “Congress has remained steady and strong on its principles of promoting secularism, harmony and  brotherhood in the society and  unity and integrity of the State and nation. It has never compromised on its basic principles against the onslaught of communal, divisive and  separatist  tendencies of certain forces for their vested political interests, as a result it has further enhanced the acceptability of the congress in all three regions and sections of the State,” he asserted.
