JAMMU: As residents felt dejected with the working of the former-Mayor Kavinder Gupta, they have pinned hopes on their newly elected Corporator of Ward Number 36, Subash Sharma.
While interacting with this correspondent, the people put forth their burning issues including water scarcity, power fluctuation and non-availability of parking space on the Lakad Mandi road.
This Ward comprised of 5 Mohallas including Lakad Mandi, Indira Colony, Bhawani Nagar, Daily Excelsior Lane and Hyderpora.
The water pipes laid in this Ward are old and have got damaged. Water leakage is the core issue, which according to the people, should be resolved in the shortest possible time.
Due to shortage of water, the women folk residing in this ward faced manifold problems in carrying out their routine work like cooking food, washing utensils and washing clothes.
“Water is not being supplied on daily basis in our wards, which creates problems for us. We hope our newly elected Corporator will take immediate steps to provide regular drinking water”, Sunita Sharma residing in this Ward said.
Non-availability of parking space on the Lakad Mandi road has also created problems for the commuters.
“The traffic movement on the Lakad Mandi road gets halted various times throughout the day due to congested road. The road should be widened for the free flow of vehicles”, Sunil Gupta stated.
One of the most important issues is of construction of nallah in Daily Excelsior lane, which according to the residents, creates havoc during rains.
“The nallah in the Daily Excelsior lane needs immediate construction as during rains, the water flows out of it and enter our houses, thereby causing huge loss viz damaging the household items”, Hunny informed.
When all these issues were taken up with the newly elected Corporator, Subash Sharma, he said all the issues will be taken up with the concerned authorities for immediate redressal.
Regarding construction of nallah in the Daily Excelsior lane, the Corporator informed that the construction work is pending due to non-issuance of NOC by the Forest Department. The construction work of the nallah will start as soon as Forest Department gives permission, he added.
“Regularization of my Ward will be my priority, for which I will submit a resolution and get it passed through Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Jammu Development Authority (JDA)”, he asserted.
“To overcome parking issues on Lakad Mandi road, I will take up the issue with concerned authorities to cover the drains with grills”, he added.
It is pertinent to mention that newly elected Corporator Subash Sharma served at various posts in State BJP Unit and when the mandate of the Corporator was given to Deepak Gupta, brother of former Speaker Kavinder Gupta, he decided to fight the election as an Independent candidate.
