Akhtar visits hostel for specially-abled children

LEH, Aug 29: On his extensive tour of Leh district, Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar, today visited a hostel meant for specially-abled children at Chushot. He interacted with the children and enquired about the facilities available there.
Akhtar appreciated the efforts of School Education Department for having developed such a facility for specially-abled children. He said there is need to increase awareness of disability issues in the society and promote inclusion of people with disability into the mainstream. He said more such endeavours are required for the welfare of the disabled and to develop a society that is sensitive towards people with special needs. The Minister also asked the concerned for deployment of a physiotherapist and a resource person in the hostel at the earliest.
The Minister also visited Imamiya Mission School, Chushot, run by the Imamiya Mission Society and interacted with the students. He appreciated the work done by the society and the efforts of the local management in its cause to provide education to the children from the backward sections of the society besides other social activities and also imparting vocational training to the unemployed educated youth and adult education in far flung villages.
The Minister appreciated the management for making available one of the best hostel facility in the area to the students who mostly belong to rural areas with lack of educational atmosphere due to harsh climatic conditions.
Later, a deputation of the local BJP leaders also called on the Minister and briefed him about the issues concerning them. They sought deployment of teachers in schools for Bodhi and Arabic. The Minister assured them that all their genuine demands shall be given due consideration.
